How It Works

Suitability assessment

Not every property is suitable for trenchless. Depth, soil conditions, existing utilities, and pipe path all affect whether pipe bursting or directional drilling is viable. We assess this before quoting and tell you upfront if conventional trenching is the better option.

Method selection

Pipe bursting uses a bursting head pulled through the old pipe, fracturing it outward while pulling the new pipe behind it — ideal for replacing an existing lead line along the same path. Directional drilling bores a new path entirely, useful when the existing pipe route isn't suitable.

Two access points

One small access pit at the foundation entry and one at the property-line connection. The new pipe is pulled or pushed through the ground between them. These two pits are the only ground disturbance on most trenchless jobs.

Connection and test

The new line is connected at both ends and pressure-tested. The access pits are restored. You're left with two small patches of backfill rather than a trench across the full yard.

Is trenchless more expensive?

Does trenchless work on lead pipes specifically?

Yes. Pipe bursting can replace a lead service line along its existing path — the old lead pipe is fragmented outward as the new pipe is pulled through. It's one of the most effective methods for lead line replacement where the soil and depth are suitable.

Does trenchless work under concrete driveways?

Often yes. Directional drilling can bore under a concrete driveway without breaking the surface. We core two small entry and exit holes at the edges and drill between them underground. The driveway surface remains intact.

What pipe material is used in trenchless installations?

PEX is the most common choice for trenchless installations because of its flexibility — it can be pulled through curved paths without fittings. Copper can also be used in pipe bursting applications where the path is relatively straight.
