Who owns the lead service line?

It's split. The section from the city water main to your property line belongs to the City of Toronto. The section from your property line to your water meter is your responsibility as the homeowner.

Does the city replace their part for free?

The city has been systematically replacing the public-side portion as budgets allow. In many cases, when a homeowner replaces their private side, the city will coordinate the public-side work at the same time — sometimes at no additional cost. We'll confirm what applies to your address when you call.

How do I know the new pipe won't have lead in it?

Type K copper and PEX are both lead-free materials approved by Health Canada and the City of Toronto. We flush the line after installation and can arrange independent water testing if you want third-party confirmation.

Will my water pressure change after replacement?
